Ladies & gentlemen (and the rest of you schlubs too), I'm temporarily back.

The family got back from Houston late last night, and I pretty much crashed after checking to make sure there were no emergency/important/critical emails pending. Houston was nicely low-key, and I'm really glad that I went. I love my Nana and Pop, and I don't get to see them nearly enough. I didn't get much overall, but then again, I didn't really want much. I seem to be getting less and less materialistic as I age. Anyway, Xmas was nice, even if I could've done without the 6 hour drive each way.

As for developments here at the home base. The situation as it stood when we left Thursday morning was that the real apartment manager (ball-breaking bitch, hope you DIEDIEDIEDIE) refused to give us any concessions, not even for the 2 days that our apartment was uninhabitable due to lack of water because one of the maintainence guys made a "good faith offer" of the model to my sister/roommate's fiance, thinking he was me. This is utter bullshit, of course, but I didn't have the time or patience to call her on it before we had to go.

Aaaaaaaanyway, I came back to the apartment last night to find that the tile had been relaid in the bathroom/vanity area where they had torn all that shit up (good!), but that it's very lumpy because they didn't plane down the new concrete to be level with the old concrete (bad!). Also, while our water and toilet facilities are back and operational (good!), the knob on the one-and-only shower/tub come off in my hand as I tried to use it this morning (bad!). Now, I showered yesterday morning, and I haven't done anything that would make me highly stinky, but I hate having to go to work dirty. Assuming that the apartments don't get it fixed in a timely manner (even odds at this point), I'm going to have to go over to the 'rents again.

HELL yeah, are we looking for a new apartment. We've even got a lead on an apartment in a nicer complex that's about 200 sq.ft. larger for only $20 more a month. I'm going to try to get over there today at lunch, and if it isn't craptacular, we're probably going to go for it. Wish me luck!

Oh dear Lord, truly thou hast heard my prayers!

The other apartment is fantastic! It has washer/dryer hookups, 2 full-size bedrooms, 2 full-size bathrooms, a fireplace, a wetbar, a private patio that overlooks a local conservation park, huge closets, and a FREAKIN' BREAKFAST NOOK!!!!

All these amenities, plus about 200 sq.ft more room, plus we can move in immediately, and only $620/month total!

I am sooooo there!

[livejournal.com profile] lysariala and I dropped off the application forms after work today, and the woman essentially said that assuming we pass the credit check (no problem AT ALL), the apartment is ours! And because they're going to be closed on the 31st and 1st, we'd get the keys on the 29th or 30th, allowing us to move the big stuff straight from one apartment to the other.

And a bonus that I didn't realize: the regular rate for this apartment is $725/month, but we'll keep the $620/month rate for as long as we stay here!

::happy butt-wiggling dance::

Your Element Is Earth

You excel at planning and strategizing.
You could be a champ at chess or Survivor.

Well grounded, you are able to be realistic and rationalize.
On the inside, you have a hard core. It's tough to phase you.

You are super productive, and you are able to think anything through.
Focused and super charged, your instincts are a good guide for your next step.

So very much not a surprise. My Occidental Zodiac sign is Taurus (Fixed Earth) and my Chinese Zodiac sign is the Goat/Sheep/Ram of Earth/Soil. I couldn't be more grounded if I had roots.
