Despite furrbear's gracious prescence last night, my computer woes continue. Remember that new computer I bought on Tuesday? Well, I finally got around to unpacking today with the intent of cannabilizing parts from the old computer (the one current in service). Weeeell, that didn't quite happen. I can't directly transfer my current hard drives because neither has the drivers for the new motherboard on them, and the new comp is preloaded with Linspire, a lindows derivative. So I tried putting my XP-loaded hard drive into slave behind the lindows one. The problem is that I have next to no experience with linux, and that was many, many moons ago in any case, and I can't figure out how to find my (now) secondary drive!

So, after many hours of cannabilizing, testing, loading, reloading, unloading, etc... I put my original system back together. ::sigh:: This is incredibly frustrating. If I can't make this happen tomorrow evening, I think I'm gonna take the new system back for a refund.

Old XP drive as master, new linspire drive as slave.

MoBo Support CD will have any drivers you need. Base device functionality should be OK. little bit of trickery involved to get both booting.

Lemme know, we're free Tuesday evening. (Mom has to take the Bother to FtW.)

I would appreciate it if you could come by again tonight. I tried your suggestion, but it didn't work. The computer accessed the CD and it looked like everything was okay, then it flickered a BSOD and looped back to the initial bootup. The BSOD is too quick to clearly read what it says, but I think it says that there's not enough memory. The system came with 128 and the RAM in my current comp is the wrong format to transfer, so I'll probably have to hit Fry's again.

I'm going to be tutoring in SW FW until 4, and won't be back home until 5ish or so, but feel free to come by any time after that.
