oh, this has been a *GLORIOUS* day.
First of all, I had a doctor appointment today, so I went in early to avoid having to take some sick time. It turns out that with the snow & icy roads, I was the only person in my unit (out of 20) to show up. This includes the supervisor & assistant supervisor. 2 other people showed up about 11-11:30, but we were still rattling around like peas in a can. And since calls get forwarded if you're absent, guess who got to field the entire unit's worth of calls? Yup, me. I probably answered 35-40 calls today, 3 of which were for me.
Next, we've been having some fairly severe connectivity and lag issues with out internet for the last 2-3 weeks and I've called the cable company 5-6 times about it already. During last night's call, they scheduled a tech to come out today between 5-7 to test the modem & line. Well, s/he called me at about 4:30-4:45, while I was in my doctor's appointment, to confirm that s/he was on his/her way. Except that when s/he couldn't get me, apparently s/he decided to skip the call. I know this because Matt was here from about 4:55 until a few minutes ago and the tech never even knocked on the door. So yeah, I'm not terribly happy with Time Warner at the moment. Especially since I called tech support (AGAIN!) and the Tier 3 guy said that yeah, he's showing some ridonkulously bad SNR that's indicative of a bad cable. As in, the physical cabling installed in the walls and street out to the local node. Imagine my pleasure upon hearing about this, particularly since he figured that out in less than 5 minutes on the phone with me and remote testing the modem. (sidenote: if that actually is the problem. I've received a different explanation for the problem every time I've called)
Overall, this has not been a good day.
Oh! We also have a winter weather warning in effect until mid-morning tomorrow because the (relatively) high temps today melted some of the snow and ice just in time for tonight's significantly sub-freezing temperatures to turn into black ice on the roads! WHEE!!!
