Heroes 1.17: Company Man
Feb. 28th, 2007 06:01 pmOkay, this one I actually taped, so I get to see the whole thing.
Previously: Bennet lied to Claire, absucted supers and got Mexican-standoffed by Radioactive Ted and Matt.
Mr. Muggles: Most ineffectual guard dog ever.
So Ted's been practicing, has he? Localized radioactive bursts of sufficient strength to melt metal without spillover. Impressive.
I like the film noir effect they're using for Papa Bennet's flashbacks. Shades of grey, indeed.
So Claude was Bennet's first partner. I mean, we all pretty much knew that Claude used to work with OWI, but I didn't realize that he had a personal history with Bennet.
Matt, being telepathic isn't that great of an advantage if you can't stop repeating what people are thinking. Sorry to see that Claire's disillusionment is complete, though. :-(
Whoa. Nice effect with Ted's hands. I guess this is where we find out whether or not Claire can survive radiation.
Poor, stupid Matt. You started hearing voices well before you got 'napped, you idiot.
So OWI WAS trying to bag FireMommy.
HOLY SHIT! DADDY NAKAMURA IS THE HEAD OF OWI! THIS SHOW IS SO FUCKING AWESOME!!!
Being bilingual has its advantages.
So Ted freaks out (unsurprising) and both Claire and Papa Bennet give Matt the same order. Indicative of her selfless nature and his ruthlessness, I think.
Okay, spitting up the bullet? Gross but cool.
I do like seeing how fatherhood has changed Papa Bennet.
Ted: Reasonable paranoiac.
So the Haitian Sensation has always pretended to be mute? I wonder why.
Again: poor stupid Matt. Papa Bennet may or may not be lying, but regardless, he's playing you like a fiddle.
So Ted relies on meditation to both control and practice his power. I like how they used the lighting effects in that scene.
And here's good old Haitian Sensation, suddenly not mute.
Yeah, I wondered why the OWI would tolerate an invisible man in their ranks. I do like that "I guess I believe you're a better man than they do" line. He really does have a talent for cutting through the bullshit, doesn't he?
Papa Bennet was right, though: Ted wants revenge, not justice.
Again: Mr. Muggles is the worst guard dog ever.
Okay, so Claire CAN survive the radiation. Looking even more like she's going to be the one to take down the New York Nuke, whoever it turns out to be.
Oh, I love Mama Bennet and she loves Claire. I wonder how long Ted is going to tolerate this heart-to-heart.
Ah. Not long at all.
Well. THAT was a bad move on Bennet's supervisor's part.
Insanely cool scene, though. Incredibly cinematic. The burning effects inside the house, the charred ashes flying through the air, Claire's radiotion burning and haling... and that fading smile on Papa Bennet's face.
Well, it may not be the New York Nuke, but yep, Claire saved the world. This time.
So both Ted and Matt are back on the farm and gonna stay there. And we have a new super on the squad, presumably more loyal to OWI than Haitian Sensation or Pixie.
Oh, lord, it's the same bridge. This is where he decided to keep her and this is where he loses her.
After so many years, Bennet makes the final sacrifice to save his daughter. Oh Lord was that touching.
Okay, I know that I'm a gushing fanboy of this show, but that has to be one of the most harrowing, touching and excellent episodes of any TV show I've ever seen. I fully expect Heroes to pick up a ton of Emmys this year, and deservedly so.
