Heroes 1.10: Six Months Earlier
Nov. 27th, 2006 09:09 pmPreviously: Well, technically this happens before everything else...
As annoying as Mohinder's VOs are, I like how they went straight into Hiro's scene from last episode. And no wonder he looked confused in that photo: he hadn't yet figured out that he'd gone too far and was worried about the next day.
So Sylar is/was a watchmaker? That would explain the precision of his TK. Plus, his first name is Gabriel. More lovely Biblical connotations. At least it helps explain the "I have sinned" stuff.
So Matt pulled over Eden back after she first left home. Plus, he looks mildly immune to her power. Only mildly, mind you, since he hasn't activated yet. Plus, she immediately meets Deep Cleaner. I wonder if DC was working for Bennet at that time.
Wow. Jackie was a bitch to Claire even before the whole unpopularity thing. And this was the first year that Claire was on the cheerleading team? Interesting.
Bennet looked WAY more freaked out about getting a call from Chandra Suresh, even before he heard that the call was about Claire. Methinks that Bennet's organization had been keeping an eye on Papa Suresh for a while.
Aww... Miss Understanding's birthday is two days before mine. :-) Plus, Hiro's so cute when he's flustered.
Niki is/was an alcoholic. Why am I not surprised. And I guess that's where she met Texas Tina. And daddy issues too, the standard "let's complicate the character" standby.
It's good to see that Peter actually has/had friends. And he's brand new to hospice care? Weird... I had the impression that he'd been doing it for longer than 6 months.
Okay, I can't believe that the DA would assign the prosecution of Lindermann to Nathan; he's personally and directly involved and whichever way it goes, people will cry foul. Also, Daddy Petrelli hasn't "killed himself" yet? Again, I thought that had happened more than 6 months ago.
Sylar is showing signs of psychopathy, even before
Okay, so Deep Cleaner brought Eden in and Bennet was totally immune to the Push. It's heavily implied that Deep Cleaner was somehow protecting Bennet, but how exactly would that work? So far, each super only has one power (though it may have multiple uses, like with Hiro's time/space manipulation). Maybe it isn't so much that DC erases memories so much as that he can create and destroy mental blocks & barriers? So he doesn't really erase memories, he just puts them behind an impenetrable wall.
"Gureto Scottu!" HAHAHAHA!!!! Of course, no I want to know if the direct interaction of two different Hiros is where the "rifts" start. Probably not as bad as if they were in the same room or anything, but still... problems.
Poor Matt... so begins the crumbling of his life.
So Hiro has started working there as a busboy. I wonder how long he's been there. And Charlie's power is already kicking in.
It was already revealed in the previews from last week, but here we find out that Jessica (or the namesake, at least) died in '87 at the age of 11. Now we just need to find out how.
I'm glad to see that the Nathan/Peter dynamic isn't anything new. Nathan's pretty damn obnoxious about being the favorite, though. "I can't help being so perfect and lovely and successful. My wallet can't hold all my hundrends and my diamond shoes are too tight!"
Oh, and Lindermann ordered the wreck that crippled Heidi. And hey! Nathan flew! And it looks like Heidi saw it too. I wonder if she remembers it.
We already knew that Peter had dreamed about the crash before he got the call from Nathan, but I wonder if that was the first instance of his power as well. Are the two brothers powers linked?
Okay, that was some odd eclipse imagery when Nathan was told that his wife was crippled. Foreshadowing, obviously.
Paper crane time! Nice tie-back to Hiro's backstory comic. Charlie looks really freaked out, though, which is completely understandable.
Sylar desperately wants to be special because he desperately wants to be better than everyone else. Wait. This Brian Davis guy had the TK? Hmm... maybe Gabriel/Sylar "eats" other people's powers after all.
So Niki's dad has money and feels guilty. He's still a bastard, though. Micah took that computer apart pretty damn quick, too. I guess that his technopathy has already kicked in. And theeeeere's Ikin!
Aww... Chandra and Bennet are bonding. Sorta. And Shanti only had a proto-power, then? Or was she just the victim of a genetic disorder.
Hmm. It seems like this is the first time that Ikin's come out to play. With the super-strength, anyway; she was apparently "active" when Niki was growing up. But now I'm confused: is this a classic split personality caused by traumatic abuse as a child or has Jessica been "hiding" in Niki ever since they were kids?
Claire has her own drumline soundtrack! Secondary, useless but cool powers are fun!
That was an interesting visual, with Claire's face in full sunlight while her father was totally in shadow. And Bennet confirmed Claire's power at the same time she discovered it. I wonder why it took her so long to "come out" to him.
Poor Matt. His spiral into a crappy life has begun. And wouldn't they have discovered his dyslexia when he first applied to the police academy? And he started "overhearing" then too, but it sounds like it was too jumbled for him to understand.
Poor Hiro. He's tried so hard to save Charlie and they fell in love with each other and now his powers are randomly activating. It looks like he's back in October, too. I guess that was when he "popped out of [Charlie's] life". I just hope that Charlie's subsequent disappearance (I'm assuming that, post-Hiro's jump, she wasn't killed since that Shrine was too well-established) is because she skipped town before Sylar could come to take her brain.
Poor schlubby Brian Davis. You're about to be Victim #1 of Sylar the Watchmaker. And he's killing supers beacuse they're "broken" and he has to "fix their brains". I wonder how that leads to him using Davis's TK.
So Pixie's first assignment is to stalk Papa Suresh and get Claire off the List O'Doom. A bit late, methinks, considering that Sylar has already begun. Gabriel Sylar would be much better named Lucifer, I think.
And here's where we lose Happy-Go-Lucky Hiro. :-( Of course, now I want to know how much he teleported back and forth before he finally realized the limits of his power.
Next week: Back in the present day (so to speak), everyone meets up for a battle royale! Or maybe not.

Date: 2006-11-28 11:41 pm (UTC)I'm just frustrated with a few of the storylines, notably Matt's cheating wife and craptastic life (though it looks like he'll be coming to Odessa next ep, so hopefully the LA stuff will get sidelined soon). Also, I have a problem with Niki but not Jessica. I realize that the writers are deliberately showing how Niki and Jessica are almost complete opposites, but that leaves Niki so... weak and pathetic. And Mohinder is just boring.
On the other hand, I've loved Hiro and Claire since the beginning and am starting to like Peter now that he's not interacting with Nathan. The dysfunction between the two of them is realistic, considering their family background, but it's also something that just makes me uncomfortable. ::shrug:: That's just me, though
I think that the writing and acting are really top-notch, unlike another show I watch. ::coughjerichocough:: THAT one I snark on purpose. :-P
