LOST: "...In Translation"
Feb. 23rd, 2005 07:04 pmNow that I've finally realized that I can find the episode titles online before the episode actually airs, I'm gonna start using them. (Yes, I know that it's pathetic that it took me so long. It just didn't occur to me.)
I suspected that this would be a Jin episode. It's good to be right occasionally.
"She is my dream." Yes, it's sappy, but we already knew that Jin desperately loved Sun. I'm not saying "loves" because we don't yet know how/if his feelings have changed.
Hey! Jin's still wearing the handcuff. Nice attention to continuity, editors! Keep it up!
Oh no. Jin's daddy isn't dead, is he? Jin isn't a very good liar yet.
The flowers are going to be a motif for them, isn't it?
That raft actually looks pretty good. I wonder what they used to seal it. Tree sap?
More evidence that Hurley is the glue that's holding this group together. I find it interesting that he treats Jin absolutely like anyone else. When Jin revealas that he knows English, Harley won't be surprised.
It looks like the father-son bonding is coming along nicely. I guess that having his father rescue him from a OMGWTFPOLARBEAR increased Michael's standing in Walt's eyes.
I repeat: Jack's an ass.
Why is Sun speaking English in the middle of the beach camp? I'm surprised that more people don't know her secret if she's this careless about it.
Did I just hear the mechanical rumblings of the Critter in the background of the ship-burning scene?
::sigh:: They totally just foreshadowed that Locke set the fire... which means that he didn't. Is it a bad sign that I'm starting to anticipate the fake-outs?
Oh, Jin. Why?
Oh crap, that's where the puppy came from? And yeah... Jin should/does know what "Special Assistant" means, now doesn't he?
Is Sayid asking for permission to court? How oddly cute. And Boone gives the crappiest "comfort advice" ever, y'all.
Wait, I thought Michael was the one who was going to beat up Jin. Is Sawyer going to bring him to "trial" or somesuch?
(BTW, based on the show's history of misleading evidence & plots, I bet Jin just fell into the fire back at the Doom Caves and didn't really light the boat.)
Aw crap. Boone really does screw up everything he touches, doesn't he? It's like he has the Midas touch of crap.
Hmm... I know that their relationship was far from healthy, but Locke really seems intent on breaking apart Shannon and Boone. Also, Locke? When Boone goes out of his way to screw up his sister's potential relationship, Shannon has an excuse to want to kill his ass.
Nice reference to "Lord of the Flies." The writers are really applying the isolation/deserted island references, aren't they?
::sigh:: And now Jin KNOWS what a "special assistant" is. And at least the blood scene wasn't a result of him killing someone. Yet. Jin is trying to retain his humanity. And it was a nice touch showing his stoic facade breaking down.
If I saw this correctly, when we were in Jin's viewpoint, the others were just speaking/shouting gibberish. If so, it's a neat (and subtle) way of showing the language barrier from the other side.
Aaaaaand there goes Sun's secret. Feeling of betrayal in 5...4...3...2...1...Feeling of betrayal acheived!
Oh shut up, Cult Leader Locke. I can't decide whether you're more annoying in Inscrutable Sage mode, Creepy-Ass Survivalist mode, or Cult Leader mode.
Dear gods, I love it when they do pan-shots. Hawai'i is gorgeous.
Once Walt stopped fightin him tooth-and-nail, Michael really started racking up the Fatherhood points, hasn't he?
The actress playing Sun is very, very talented. I like her a lot.
Told ya. Jin lied about his father. I'm guessing that this is right after the hit and Jin returned home in an effort to remember where he came from so as not to lose who he really is.
Okay, we finally have a reason for why Sun&Jin were in Sydney. And I take it that that watch was for the LA associate.
Okay, so Jin understands English, even if he doesn't actually speak it. Otherwise he wouldn't have said that last line.
The camerawork on this show is often-times amazing. That last scene with Sun, head bowed, framed against the waterfall pool was just gorgeous.
And we're back to the heavily symbolic Backgammon game.
Walt? Long silences are almost as good as outright confessions. And that's a crap excuse; just because you like Mystery Friggin' Island doesn't mean that everyone else does. Your dad, for one, wants to get the hell off.
Interesting. It looks like the Jin/Michael hate is (temporarily) sublimated for the greater good.
FINALLY! Someone besides Prom PrincessBarbie Kate gets a cheesecake shot!
Hee! Hurley's batteries finally gave out. No more musical montages to the end-credits.
YAY! Next week is the Hurley episode!! It's about damn time.

Date: 2005-02-24 04:46 am (UTC)I thought in the first flash back for Jin, that Hurley was on the girl's TV.
And since John Locke's name is John Locke it is about time they brought in the fresh start stuff.
Fantastic show!
