Feb. 19th, 2005 09:35 pmThe family and I went down to Longview today. I came back this afternoon/evening because I have 2 students tomorrow and I can't/couldn't reschedule one of them.
We visited Grandma at the nursing home today for an hour. She was going to church for a widows/widowers dinner. I hate nursing homes. I remember visiting my great-grandmothers nearly 20 years ago, and the smell hasn't changed. No matter how clean the staff keeps the facility, it always smells of age, decay and death. It's the stench of entropy.
Grandma is deteriorating. She recognized us (thank the Lord), but she was visibly confused by our conversation. Based on the reports I've heard from my mother and my Aunt Cori & Uncle Tim (they live in Longview and are the most informed), Grandma is getting worse and worse, faster and faster. If she makes another three months alive and with her facilities even somewhat intact, it will be a stone-solid miracle.
In somewhat related news, I have to get my window repaired as soon as my tax refund comes in; the plastic dropcloth I'm using as a temporary cover *burst* while I was on the highway. Although I was luckily close to a rest-stop area and had more of the drop in my car (just in case), it started blowing and raining *just* as I got out of the car. The gods do love practical jokes, neh?
