Sep. 21st, 2004 06:29 pmBeen busy the past couple of days. I finished off my take-home test for Business Communications, and I'm fairly sure that I'm caught up on the classes I missed in Electronics from being out sick. All that's left on the "Do NOW" list is the Circuits homework due tomorrow night. I've already finished half of it, and it doesn't look like the rest will be all that bad either. And with that sentence, Certain Doom (TM) is sure to be on its way.
I'm still not getting all the replies to my comments, so please forgive me if I seem to have been ignoring you. Iprobably wasn't.
In other news, I somehow got sucked into the
dead_earth community. It's a fanfic "shared-world" community with a twist: every fandom you can think of is allowable. The premise is that a series of horrifically (and possibly unnaturally) frequent and extreme natural disasters led the governments or mad scientists or whomever in most parallel dimensions to use extreme measures to try to stop or contain the disasters. Instead, the combined energy released in so many dimensions almost simultaneously broke down the interdimensional barriers, leading to a complete collapse and merger of a frelling HUGE number of realities. Things went downhill from there.
Writers can call dibs on any fandom, assuming that no-one else got there first, or share a fandom with other writers, mainly by taking different characters from the fandom. Anything is possible, with one exception. You cannot ignore the internal "canon" of the community. If another writer killed off character X on such-and-such date, you can't have him/her appearing in your fic at a time after that date. If city Y has burned to the ground, you can't write it as a bustling metropolis the day after its supposed destruction. Well... unless you can come up with a damned good reason. In any case, the community looks like it's shaping up well, and I got one of the first fics posted. Yay! I made canon! I'm giggling like a little school-girl.
I'm not wearing the skirt, though.
Okay, maybe for you. But just once!
And now I'm heading over to K&F's to watch the finale of The Amazing Race. I hope that Colin and Christie somehow rediscover their dignity, but I fear that would take a year's worth of after-school specials. Heck, it may take "A Very Special Blossom"!
Oh, and check out my new "sexy Vin Diesel" icon. Isn't he just the yum?
