Was everyone else as annoyed at Bob 'n Katie during the opening ceremonies? They could NOT keep they mouths shut, could they? And I swear, some of the "jokes" they used were so old, my laugh creaked.

Anyway, I'm following in [livejournal.com profile] furrbear's footsteps and sending an email to my local affiliate (NBC5i.com) as well as the corporate headquarters (MSNBC) complaining about the voiceovers. If you're interested, the contents of my message are here:

Subject: Olympic Opening Ceremonies coverage

Dear Sir or Madam;

I found the continual voiceover of the two commentators, Bob Costas and Katie Couric, during the opening ceremonies of the Olympics to be annoying and distracting. They interrupted and distorted some of the most beautiful parts of the ceremonies, including the song performed by Björk, the comments by the IOC chairman, and initial "exploding sculpture" piece and the final relay of the torch.

Please note that my family of five and myself were so bothered by this intrusive commentary that we are discussing NOT watching the closing ceremonies if there is any commentary at all.

Also, while I understand that corporate sponsorship in the form of commercials is necessary to help fund the expanded coverage of the Olympics, I found the frequent commercial breaks and subsequent "recaps" of the national Olympic teams that had passed during the break to be offensive to said teams. They may not be as large or visible as teams from the USA, Japan, China, Great Britain or other world powers, but they possess equal dignity and are deserving of equal coverage.

That having been said, I would like to compliment you on the overall coverage. With the exception of the constant voiceovers, I found the coverage to be respectful and classy.

As a side note, I want to thank your company for expanding the Olympic coverage to include all the sports at the Games. I enjoy watching some of the lesser-viewed sports, including archery and equestrianism, and am grateful that I can now see them.

Respectfully Yours,
Andrew Wallace
