So I finally finished downloading the beta software for City of Heroes; it took nearly 3 hours on a DSL connection with fairly consistent download rate of ~75Kb/s. Took advantage of the "reserve your hero names early" thing they're offering the pre-oder/beta players (since all other character info will be wiped tonight in prep for the full release this weekend), and got 3 names on one of the servers. They'd already disabled a lot of the stuff (no surprise, I think it's going down in about an hour from time of this post), but the reaction time is fairly beautiful. We'll see after I get a chance to *really* play it this Sunday.

...my gods, that was incredibly boring for you to read, wasn't it? As an apology, check out the journal entry for today's /usr/bin/w00t, in which other people sum up a lot of my feelings about Bush, true soldiers, & the military... at least at the moment.

Gad, by the time I get to this thing all the GOOD names'll be taken and I'll end up having to fly my mighty bear superhero around with a name like "Mrs. Garrett" or something.

Nah, each server has separate name reservations, so unless the name you want is common or used by a real anal-retentive, you shouldn't have any problems. Besides which, you're a linguist; other languages provide interesting sources, neh?
