Did you catch the news conference of the NY public health guy? Over 100 ill from one private high school in Queens, 8 of 9 blood tests of ill kids tested Fri. pm positive for swine flu. That school may be closed on Mon. Guy stressed that we should wash hands, cover to cough, and we can't get it by eating pork. All in that "move along, nothing to see here" tone. Another 2 cases confirmed in Kansas this pm. CDC says it is too late to quarantine because no connection can be found between the various geographical outbreaks in the US. Apparently WHO is freaking. This SF (swine flu) is highly contagious, incubation period of 1-3 days, somewhat susceptible to Tamaflu. Your Mexican pandemic is rapidly turning into a global event. Because it is mostly animal viral, humans have virtually no innate immunity, and in Mexico at least, young healthy adults are most affected, just like 1918.

Seriously, this was reminding me of the 1918 flu as well. Last I heard, there were no deaths in the USA yet, but then again, all the US cases are/were children so far. The Mexican cases are up to at least 80 deaths, though, and possibly more confirmed since the BBC news report I heard last night.
