I miss the stars.
Even on a clear, moonless night, you can only pick out a small fraction of the true number of stars. Right now, at 10 PM, the sky is closer to slate-gray than true black. It's telling when the unlit forest edge 100 yards away is darker than the night sky.
I remember when I was little the times when my family would drive down to my grandparents in Houston, and sitting in the back seat, staring out the window at the night sky, blazing with stars. You can't get that in the city.
I miss the stars.
EDIT: I found this site,
Dark Sky, that has a lot of information on the effects of light pollution and recommended ways to prevent/mitigate it.
