The new season of The Amazing Race is starting November 16! I don't have to wait until next summer! I'm going to have two squee-lishiss shows to be dedicated to running in the same season!! Do you have any idea how long it's been since that's happened?

It's the year of The Amazing Lost!!

Edit: Married pro wrestlers! Bad hairdos! Strangely unattractive "models"! And HERA, venegful goddess! This is going to be sooohoho good!

All I can say is thank Gord it's not going to be on Wednesday nights! I've already got Lost, Ghost Hunters, AND Smallville taking up that day. Funny that the only three shows I watch every week are all on the same night... Y'know, I was going to try to get on that season of the Amazing Race, but the form for applying was on their web site for about a week, and I missed it... Next time, Gadget! Anyway, YAY FOR THE AMAZING RACE!

By the way, any theories on what's going on with Lost? I heard one on the radio that, now that I think about it, sounds like it might be on the right track. An interesting theory to think about at the least, though.

I'm just glad that CBS came to its collective senses and decided to put its double-Emmy-winning reality show into the regular season. Although I do like seeing it during the summer indtead of reruns...

As for Lost theories, I'm trying to stay within the guidelines that the head writer has revealed. Namely: the whatsit isn't a dinosaur and the island is real (i.e. they're not dead, they're not in someone's dream, they're not in a pockey dimension, etc.).

Now this still leaves a lot of room for speculation, especially when you know that the head writer is a huge fan of King's The Stand, and is deliberately working in elements that evoke said book. Personally, I think that the survivors were "chosen" to be on the island. Whether this choosing was metaphysical, spiritual, or conspiratorial (OMGCIA!!!), I don't know. And it's interesting watching the characters evolve. Doctor "I'm not a leader!" Jack is now head of one of the camps, Kate the Runaway Fugitive is developing into something like a sheriff or gunslinger, Hurley appears to be becoming den mother/quartermaster, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if we start seeing allusions paralleling the main characters to ancient gods of various pantheons. Let's see... Sayid is the technologist. Hephaestus/Vulcan, maybe? Kate could be a Valkyrie, Jack is Hercules, Locke is the wandering shaman, keeper of secrets. Coyote? Maybe Cernunnos or Herne the Hunter. I'd expect something from an Oriental pantheon for Sun & Jin, but I don't know enough to venture a guess. Boone and Shannon have that whole "polar opposite siblings" thing going on, so how about Apollo & Artemis/Diana for them? But Charlie is much more the musician than Boone appears to be. Hmm.... maybe Bacchus or Pan. Hurley is (so far) the keeper of the hearth, so high priest of Hestia/Vesta to him. Claire is fairly obviously the earth-mother analogue, although there's a delightful element of vulnerability there as well. A subtle commentary on the current state of the environment? Rose is sufficiently mysterious to be Cassandra or one of the Fates. Sawyer I can see as Loki to the "hero" godnesses in Jack, Kate, and Sayid. Michael and Walt are difficult to place; they seem to human to be archetypes. I can kinda see Michael as Ares the Defender, keeping his people (his son) safe as best he can. But it's really a stretch. I think that's everyone from the main cast, so I'll stop now.
