This may be the gods way of saying "NO"...

I really want to try City of Heros (damn you, [livejournal.com profile] cuttercoon, damn you!), and I got some money for my birthday, so I went down to Fry's to get a Pentium 4 and some more RAM for my comp. Aaaand I found that not only is my CPU outdated, but so is my motherboard. A new motherboard & CPU would cost around $200-$250. I could put it on my credit card, but I'm trying to keep my balance down.

Crap.

Have you thought about getting a barebones system from a small mom and pop place?

The only think you'll really want to fortify is the video. Get yourself a solid video card for it....

Actually, I *hadn't* thought about that. Looking at Outpost.com, it looks like I could get a barebones for less than updating my current comp. Which is kinda sad. Hmm... my parents need a new comp anyway; I could integrate the stuff they want to keep into the remainder of my old system when I move my hardware into the barebones...

Thanks! Now I have some thinking to do...

Glad to help. And while I'm helping...if you want some help with your vacation plans, I hear that Florida is lovely this time of year--namely Orlando. ;X)
