Bakery Fresh

I've been feeling antsy lately and have been taking it out on my kitchen. In addition to the various meals I've been making from scratch, I've been baking from scratch. This is brand-new for me, so I've been a little tentative, but I'm pleased with the results so far.

The first batch of cookies I made was some cocoa chocolate chunk walnut cookies with pre-measured (dry) ingredients in a mason jar. It was a gift I'd received a couple of years back, but it was all good. The cookies were delicious. :-)

Today, I just finished making a batch of sugar cookies completely from scratch, no kit involved. They're quite delicious as well.

I may try brownies or a cake from scratch soon. I'd try bread, but I don't have a bread pan.

P.S. I finally got a toaster oven, so I can do my small-scale oven work (coughroastinggarliccough) without wasting electricity by using the entire fucking stove.

I agree with you 100%, we run into the same problem of heating up some small items and hate to use the big ass oven. I love to cook and have been making a lot of receipes from "A Taste Of Home" magazine and a blogger named Pioneer Lady. Ill post the link when I get home. Remind me if I forget.

Bread baking

You don't need a bread pan to bake bread. The first loaf of yeast bread I ever made was in a star shaped pan of Grandma's. I think I may have it somewhere. You can bake in a casserole, cake pan, pyrex, glass dish, or on a cookie sheet. Just shape into a round or oblong mound of dough and oil before the second rising. Or you could make 3 snakes and braid. That always makes a pretty loaf. You can make individual rolls, or hamburger buns in pot pie pans like Elizabeth. Odd shapes are always more impressive to others than a regular loaf shape anyway. Quick breads, and sweet breads are also good baked in cans. I'm sure that all your friends there would love some bread. Corn bread is great too. Bread is easier than cake or brownies. And more impressive to non bakers.

I'll have to look up some bread recipes, then. Gotta figure out what other ingredients I'll need to get too; I know that I need yeast and bread flour at a minimum.
