Checklist:

1) Cough? Check: intermittent episodes of 2-5 coughs in a row for 3 days

2) Headache? Check: Ebbs and flows, but each episode is worse than the last. Started at work yesterday.

3) Fatigue? Check: slept until 2PM today and still feel tired and sleepy.

4) Sinus congestion or pressure? No check.

5) Muscle aches? No check.

6) Fever? Check: woke up with 100.8 and has since gone up to 101.2 as of last thermometer check.

Testing:

1) CBC/blood work: all levels within normal range, no indication of bacterial infection.

2) Strep throat test: negative

3) Mononucleosis test: negative

4) Flu test: unavailable

Environment:

1) Sick community? Double Check: Raleigh is in the height of cold&flu season, which started late this year. Since New Year's, at least 80$ (and rising!) of our daily patients are coming in for cold/flu symptoms and we've had at least 7 confirmed cases of flu come through, that I personally know of.

2) Sick coworkers? Check: Of the 5 coworkers I usually work with, 1 has had a low-grade chronic cold for the last 3 months (she thinks she needs her tonsils out, but can't afford it under our health plan), 1 had a temp of 101.9 yesterday morning and was sent home as soon as a replacement could be called in, 1 spent this past weekend sick in bed instead of moving like she wanted (closed on a new house last week and is shutting off all utilities on the old one this Friday), and the other 2 are starting to complain of muscle weakness too. Yay for an entire shift out sick and no one to cover it!

3) Sick friends/family? N/A: I haven't seen my family since Thanksgiving and I honestly don't get to see my friends more than once a week or less.

Diagnosis:

1) Possibly flu, though I'm not displaying some of the worse symptoms of the local strain. Certainly something viral, dammit.

Conclusion:

1) So damn glad I worked 15+ hours overtime last week and had already applied to "buy out" 24 hours of Paid Time Off for this week.
