Jericho 1.7: Long Live the Mayor
Previously: Speculation! Information! Corn! Insipid Romantic Tangles!
Ah... The Compound of Rough Gay Love (And Banditry). How nice to see your ruthless denizens. Admittedly, at first I thought it was some other township and we were about to see Gray. I wonder why the Greene horses were supposed to be off-limits?
At least they painted the jack-o-lanterns instead of cutting them and wasting good produce, but using paint/markers for that seems wasteful too.
I can handle reminiscing about Before at holidays.
YES! The writers finally acknowledge that older cars aren't affected by EMPs! Of course, why the townsfolk aren't freaking out about a working car bugs. Then I remember: drinking from the well of stupid.
So Mitchell checks with hislover leader before getting out of bed? The Compound of (Ass) Banditry is rapidly gaining credence.
Agent Mimi is becoming marginally less useless. Marginally. And
So Gracie has fully embraced the barter economy. Good woman. But (and I hate to agree with Skylar) why is Dale still sleeping in the store? Perhaps to guard the remaining stock?
And Mayor Greene's "flu" storyline is so... useless.
So the entire point of the Jake/Leader scene was about dick-measuring? Wait, Leader is Emily's father? And Leader wants Jake to join the Ass Bandits? How... icky.
So showing Leader show up at the town hall is important, but showing Gray show up isn't? What strange priorities the writers have. And it looks like Gray has a wee bit of rad poisoning.
FEMA's actually operating? Now I know this is fantasy.
Interesting how the outside world is actually falling apart like it should be, but Jericho isn't. Perhaps everyone else knows about the Well of Stupidity and is deliberately avoiding it.
So it looks like this is a coordinated "terrorist" thing, then. I'm glad the NYC made it (nice reference to the heightened security post-9/11), but how did they know all this? If comms are down, where'd the info come from?
Crap. Skylar/Dale is going to become canon, isn't it?
So the Hawkinses came from DC (supporting the theory that Hawkins was part of the government). But were Mr. & Mrs. Hawkins divorced or was Darcy just stepping out on her absent husband?
And apparently not drinking fresh water from the Well of Stupid gave Gray some insight into how things ought to be run. That and actually seeing the devastation, of course.
Skylar, accept that you made a bad trade. And don't leave the remainder of your sodas behind!
Why am I not at all surprised that the Ass Bandits pulled this jailbreak? And they leave the gun cabinet unlocked? That's... dangerously stupid.
Jake has very situational ethics, doesn't he? He would have a point about the whole "they can get us stuff we can't" thing if we hadn't already seen that DALE could do that, just by actually exploring outside the town. Also, Jake? Don't complain about the truck being old as hell when you know that those are the only cars that still run.
So Robert and Darcy are definitely divorced then. And I can see why. Definitely on Darcy's side, though.
Jeez, Jake, why not give away the entire town while you're at it, why don't you? Pompous jackass. And you're perfectly comfortable letting a horse rustler and attempted murderer go free, but you think that making Emily actually see her father is unacceptable? I repeat: pompous jackass.
What's with this whole "five families moved in since I left" thing? Gray knew that the Hawkinses moved in prior to the bomb. At least he's curious about the whole "bought it with cash" thing. Extended periods with Stupid Well Water agrees with him.
Glad to see Dale actually calling Gracie on her patronizing.
Obligatory Bar Scene! Wednesday's are Mary's night off at the bar? She's the freaking owner! And she just leaves the bar completely unattended? Jeez, no wonder the booze is vanishing.
"You're my wife"? Way to be possessive, Hawkins. You're DIVORCED and she DOESN'T LIKE YOU.
Jeez, that land is awfully dry and sere.
As much as I dislike Agent Mimi, I like the realism of that scene. Aside from the rolling foothills of Kansas, of course.
You know, the whole "OMG! MAYOR DAD IZ DED!!!" fakeout just bugged. We all know that you're going to drag that out as long as possible, writers. And again, if he had "the flu", antibiotics wouldn't do jackshit except waste meds. And AGAIN, if the Jerichoans haven't done any real investigation of the surrounding area, why would they think that Rogue River still has any meds? And Mama Greene's getting pretty hardcore there. Me likey.
Well. I know that forcing my deeply estranged daughter to spend time with me via blackmail is ALWAYS a good idea, but I still think that Leader Sullivan could've handled that better.
::sigh:: At least Skylar is looking out for Dale's wellbeing, even if he isn't.
FINALLY! Heather comes out and lays one on Jake. Of course, admitting your crush on him right before he leaves on a Very Important Mission is usually a kiss of death.
Giant irradiated hamsters? Was that a snarky reference to Gamma World? Oh, Heather, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways...
And heeeeeeeere's Mayor Gray!
Aw, Jake got the Jakemobile back. Kinda negates Heather's efforts though. I eagerly await the fight between Heather and Emily. I fully expect Heather to whip out a spanner and knock Emily's ass OUT.
Wistful Ending With Obtrusive Music!
Next: Hot Zone! Gunfight among the Rolling Hills of Kansas!
