Jericho 1.5: Federal Response

Previously: Stuff happened. Not all of it made sense.
Hey! It's IRS Lady! And she has lines! Of course, they're all about establighing her as The Outsider Who Doesn't Fit In, but still.
Apparently Mary's Bar is the official town meeting place, now. At least they're not running the lights any more.
Oooooh. The lightlessness was to highlight the power returning. By the way, wouldn't having all the power come back on at once blow some trnasformers or something?
I can actually get behind the "calling every phone at once" device, as it's likely to reach the most people in the shortest time. But how, exactly, did Mary's TV start picking up a signal when it was supposedly pointed away from its regular satellite?
Okay, why would an IRS agent know ANYTHING about Homeland Security emergency proceedures?
I can deal with the phones and TV broadcasts, but there is NO WAY that the government would be able to override every possible IP address with a generic webpage/image.
Interesting how poorly Jake handles not being the one who's the star and center of attention.
Hawkins is a dick and I'm glad that Darcy called him on his bullshit. He may need to teach his family what needs to be done, but he might try explaining what he's doing instead of lecturing and demanding.
::sigh:: So SuperJake and Mayor Dad don't want to tell each other about what they each did during Jake's absence. How surprising.
And there's the blown transformer I was talking about. At least it possibly killed Emily!
Hey, it's the Schoolbus Children! And I really like both Heather and Glasses Boy in that scene. Heather kept it together and got things organized as quickly as possible and Glasses Boy delivered the best line of the night so far. :-)
Wow, IRS Lady is a real piece of work, isn't she. I understand that she's supposed to be a Sophisticated Bitch in contrast to the Simple Folk of Jericho, but they're being really hamhanded about it.
Umm... didn't Hawkins have some kind of satellite uplink already? To his group, if noone else. Why does he need the portable dish? And what kind of fool website uses the upside digits of a credit card as a password?
Heather is so doing the equivalent of running in after the cat. I hope she survives this with a minimum of drama/angst, though.
Shouldn't the firemen have immediately noticed the sparking electrical wires? And if I recall correctly, it's the current, not the voltage that's the danger. Plus, if Emily's conscious enough after 5 minutes to feebly flail at Jake (dammit, she's alive!) then she probably didn't have a heart attack.
Skylar really needs to decide whether or not she's really worried about her parents, because she seems to forget about them about half the time. And she's voluntarilly friends with people who would burn down a library and revel in the possibility that someone may be hurt. Lovely.
"Listen to what the angry fireman says." Oh, Heather, you're delightfully snarky even under pressure.
Stanley is going to use a rifle to... loosen the stuck valve? Between this and the fuel tank thing from last week, he's not too bright, is he?
I like how Heather and Eric are handling the fire, but I'm curious as to why there wasn't a window in that room that they could crawl out of, or at least break to clear out some of the smoke.
Did... did they just show that the safety latch was still locked in place on that valve?
And there's Unprodigal Son, finally the hero when his brother wasn't.
Southside fire? When was that previously mentioned?
And now Hawkins has been found out (sorta) and OF COURSE looked up just in time to catch being spied on.
Nice going, Jake, trying to undermine your brother right in front of him. I'm really hoping that he gets zombified soon.
Oh, Jake, I may not like you, but taking along the mysterious and anger-filled black man who doesn't like that you just discovered a secret about him? You are SO asking to die.
IRS Lady may be a bit of a bitch, but she *IS* trying to help out Mary.
So Hawkins is trying to find out more about Jake now that Jake knows a bit more about him. Good luck with that, Mr. "Cop From St. Louis."
::sigh:: There is absolutely no reason that that house blew out like that, other than visually dramatic necessity.
"I was a pool guy, too" Heh. Okay, I like Hawkins a little more for that line. But it definitely makes me think that he and Jake were in similar, if not the same, organization.
I am so down with them cheering the rescue of the books.
And Skylar's bitchery and self-absorbtion continues. That snotty little voice when Dale didn't want her help? Just because Dale doesn't handle things like you do is no reason to be such a... bitch.
Why is Eric acting so put out about the conviniently untouched divorce papers when he was supposedly planning on breaking up with her? Because he wasn't the initiator? Toad. And there's really no good way for this situation to resolve, is there. Poor April.
I can see Mama Green's point about moving on instead of waiting for "god knows who to tell us god knows what" but it seems at least a little foolish in light of the uncertainty.
Is it just me, or do Jake's scenes almost always take place in either darkness or fire? That's got to be indicative of something. Or sloppy writing. Whichever.
And this is where Mayor Dad is finally going to croak, isn't it? Just as soon as Jake's big speech is over, of course. Reconciliation is always a catalyst for death on tv.
Wouldn't Hawkins' computer screen be MORE obvious at night? And was that Arabic on Jake's passport? Is HE supposed to be the terrorist?
Darcy does NOT like her husband. She hasn't smiled once in any scene she's had with him.
Mama Green has a liking for German food, it seems. I like her more and more.
Were those ICBMs taking off? Well, crap.
