Sep. 19th, 2003 11:58 pmThere's nothing like going from unconciousness to fully-clothed and leaving the apartment in less than 5 minutes.
Sometime overnight, my dad's dental clinic (where I work) was broken into. Whoever it was forced the lock with a crowbar and took $88 bucks out of the cashbox. And he must have been a patient, or was clued in by a patient, because the *only* drawer he opened was the one with the casbox in it.
And while it pisses me off that this happened, and that it was probably one of our patients, who probably lives in the cheap-ass, ghetto, section 8 apartments across the street from us, what *really* upsets me is the situation with our security company.
Backstory: we switched phone companies, and therefore also switched our phone numbers, about 3 years ago. We let everyone we do business with professionally, including the security company, know the new numbers. And ever since then, we been getting false alarm reports where the security offices received a signal, but nothing had happened, not even the on-site alarm going off. This has been happening about every 3.5-4 months. Yet when dad arrived at the office this morning at 7AM, the on-site alarm was *still* going off from when the burglar broke in, but when he called the company to find out what happened and why hadn't he and/or the police been notified, they said that they hadn't received a signal. What the FUCK!? So they arrange to send a tech out between 11 and 1 to find out what's going on. Sara and I wait around until 1, with no tech. I call the 800 number for the security company and am transferred to the local dispatcher, who proceeds to heavily imply that she's doing me a tremendous favor because "we don't really have the time to see you today, but I'm squeezing you in with one of our guys." Look, bitch, we're one of your commercial clients and our business offices were burgled without you bothering to notice. I don't need your fucking attitude!
Anyway, the tech shows up around 2, and after checking and apparently fixing the problem, reports that when we got our new phone numbers, the phone people moved the wires for the active phone lines around on our phone block, but didn't also move the wires for the security system to allow access to the phone. Well of course they didn't! It's not *their* job, it's *yours*, and you should have done it when we told you about the new phone numbers! Plus, where the hell did the false alarm signals come from if the on-site system couldn't dial out?
All in all, I have to say that the security company and their arrogant incompetence enraged me more than the burglar.
Oh, and Arrr! Our booty be plundered!
