Last night, my parents told me about a job fair being held at the Arlington Convention Center today. I checked it out online and it was open to all, although they had certain services available for Katrina evacuees only (housing commission, typing/printing a new resume, reinstating your Social Security, etc.). Most of the jobs being offered were for skilled/trades or healthcare, neither of which I'm qualified for. I did leave 3 or 4 resumes with the few companies I was interested in and I picked up information on a few more.
One of the more interesting offers was from CLark County School District (Las Vegas, NV); the county's population is booming and the school district is opening new schools hand over fist. They're really, really desperate for teachers and are offering fast-track certification for people without teaching liscences. I don't think I want to move out of the area (not yet anyway), but I know that the local school districts are also looking for teachers, what with the influx of evacuee students. I'm investigating my options around here.
