This is... not a good start.

So far, it's not a matter of which team I like best as which team I dislike least. I don't remember last year's teams disintegrating quite this quickly. There are far too many interchangeable "dating models" couples, Jonathan is like Colin squared and needs about a bottle of Valium, Adam (aka "Hellboy") "is uncomfortable outside of his routine...he still lives at home". Gus (CIADad) seems like he'd rather be anywhere else, etc.etc.etc.

In short: not impressed with the cast so far. The scenery is, as always, stunning, so I'll keep watching for that if nothing else.

On the bright side, it looks like they got rid of the Yield from last season, and good riddance!

I agree, the cast seems a bit dull compared to previous seasons but it's also the first couple of episodes. We know that as the race progress it gets better when there is not that many teams to follow around.

I was just excited watching the opening shot so go figure.

True, true...
And as I recall, in previous seasons the first few episodes focussed more on the teams that got dropped early. And the ones that are just made for realiTV, like Jonathan the Control Freak. Hopefully we'll soon see some weeding out of the crappy teams.

Ah, but TAR actually has some redeeming qualities amidst the chaos, which is why I'm a little disappointed in the quality of this year's team lineup. I don't hate the show, I'm just disappointed, much like the mother who has just seen her much-loved child make a sad mistake. *shrug* Oh well, it could be worse; it could be Big Brother.

In a word, I agree completely with your observations. Umm, so more than one word. Anyway, I caught the last hour of it, and it wasn't really doing it for me. They needed to have ME on that show. :P Anyway, I'll stick it out a few more shows to see if it gets any better. *crosses fingers*

I hope that it'll get better as we knock off some of the extraneous teams (I'm looking at you IMCs!), but I'm not really holding my breath. It almost seems like they're settling a "formula" teams: the parent/child, the siblings, the minority couple, the IMC/YDC (Young Dating Couple), the old couple, the freak & his/her tagalong, the "this will strengthen/renew our relationship" couple, etc.

I *do* kinda wish they'd bring back some gay, tho. And someone not stereotypically gay, like maybe... a bear? OMG, I think I just reccomended you! How in the world did that happen, I wonder? :)

I was going to try out for what is now the current season of the Amazing Race! I was way into it over the summer, and was watching it while on my family vacation and I'd asked my older brother if he wanted to try out, too. He said he would, but I swear they had the application information on the CBS web site for about two days, and I missed my window... I'd LOVE to be on that show, though. How fun would that be? :D
