That's what it cost to get my car out of the impound lot after it got towed at school today. Cash only, no change given, but hey! We've got an ATM in our (small, crappy, smells odd in a bad way) lobby! It'll give you *ALL* the $20s you want, but we get to keep the change!

Here's the story: My first class on Tuesdays and Thursdays starts at 9:30. I arrived at the campus at 8:55 and started looking for a spot in the closest lot. (The next closest lot is about 1/2 mile further away) I spend the next 25 minutes circling through and around the damn lot, always juuuuuust missing an empty spot. Finally, with 10 minutes left before class starts, I give up and park in the parking lot of the abandoned, empty-for-2-years bookstore next to the UTA student lot. There were 2 other cars there, and I've seen this lot in use by students in previous semesters, so I thought it was okay. Turns out that it's a tow-away zone and the tow trucks are out in force for the first week of school. I head back to my car at about 12:30, after my last class of the mid-day is over, and my car's GONE! I freak out until I notice the warning signs, which are about 1' by 1.5' and posted 7 feet from the ground at the entrances to the private lot. Y'know, where it's almost impossible for a driver to see or read it. Anyway, I call the listed number on my cellphone (thank god for it, by the way), find out their impound lot is, and call my mom to come get me. My parents kindly bailed me out, but I hate having to take money from them, especially since they're paying for my monthly ~$200 anti-depressant meds. I'm angry at myself for parking in a tow-away zone, despite the fact that I didn't know that the lot was tow-away. I'm angry at UTA for building new facilities on existing parking lots without building new lots to replace the lost parking spaces. But I'm extremely angry with the tow company, who (among other annoyances) charged my $27 to compensate for the fuel the tow truck used to take my car.

I need a drink.
