Heroes 1.13: The Fix

Previously: Claire reboots her friendship with Zach, Hiro gets his scabbard, Mr. Bennet does creepy shit, Peter has coma dreams with the Ninth Doctor in them

So we start with a replay of last week's Invisible Man confrontation. I totally didn't realize that this was Christopher Eccleston last week. And Invisible Homeless Man knows someone other than Peter who can copy powers? Interesting.

So Niki's all drugged up. Looking suspiciously like Sylar's cell at Primatech.

Mrs. Matt is taking his telepathy remarkably well.

Bennet is clearly looking to kill Sylar via medical experimentation.

Ah... Hiro and Ando experience the facts of owning a car in New York. And poor Hiro is still feeling the mental block. Poor guy. :-( And now they have Men In Black after them. Linderman's people, I assume.

Mohinder's Loft of Unusual Space: Nathan's tracking down every lead he can and finds out some more about the why's of how powers exist. So it actually is fixed in the genes rather than being some X-gene that activates to reflect the personality of the super.

Invisible Man has issues. Not that that's surprising.

Aww... Zach's back on he supers bandwagon! And Mr. Muggles actually did act as a guard dog of a kind. Neat. Papa Bennet is totally not buying their impromptu story though. I do think that he kinda wants them to be friends, just not THAT kind of friends.

Ahh... THERE'S Mrs. Matt's uncomfortableness with the telepathy.

Ando very Intelligently Questions "why are they always chasing us?" I love how they hid under a car, only to have their cover literally drive off. Poor Hiro has no idea how kidnappings work, but he IS a good friend to go back for and try to save Ando. He really is the most traditionally "heroic" of the supers that we know of, isn't he? Kind of a Golden Age superhero: noble, honest, kind and true... and very naive by todays standards.

Niki/Jessica's shrink is really trying, and my have read Niki's file, but the file doesn't always have all the facts. Witness Jessica struggling to the fore. I noticed that Niki briefly slipped into Jessica's intonations, so the ambiguity of whether or not Niki/Jessica is one person or two is still up in the air.

Poor Micah and DL... they're both learning that they're not what each other expected. Idealizing someone has a tendency to backfire when you meet the person.

Oh, Claire... we kinda suspected that her biomom was dead, but it has to hurt to get confirmation. And it means that now she has yet another reason to distrust and hate her father.

Poor Mrs. Bennet. She and Lyle are getting mind-raped on a regular basis.

Okay, the ticking clock behind Sylar's "resurrection" implies that it was due to his original ability, which was apparently micro-kinesis (telekinetic control of very small objects). So did his power kick in to repair the damage, much like Claire's healing kicks in automatically? Or was it just that Sylar was using one or more of his powers to fake being dead?

And now we have a name for Claire's biomom: Meredith Gordon. (As an aside, I really like how well they use background music in this series and mood setting and transitional "softeners")

Matt probably shouldn't have told the whole truth in his report, but at least he's sorta learning how to use the info he gleans with his power. Enough to keep from being tossed in the looney bin, anyway. I wonder what the deal with that domestic scene was?

Hiro and Ando learn to not trust that no one can understand them and are on the way to meet their nemesis. Looking more and more like Linderman, too.

Nathan's being more than a bit of a bastard here, but it's for good cause. It's becoming increasingly obvious that Nathan uses his intellect and Peter uses his passion, almost exclusively for each. Both are weaker for it, but Peter's definitely making more mistakes because of his impulsivity and lack of any kind of real plan.

And Invisible Doctor is back to teach the ways of the world to his new Companion padawan student, with an official designation for Peter's root power: empath. Let's see their explanation for how that results in power-copying.

"We just have to trust each other"? Mrs. Matt is SO going to betray him.

So... is DL actually there or is this a drug-induced hallucination of Niki's? It's an interesting study in how each of them works: DL tries to run from or escape his problems and wants to make help Niki escape too, but Niki is strength: the strength to do what has to be done to survive. Jessica just takes that to a more extreme level than Niki does. Finally, Micah tries to fix things: his family, electronics, whatever. And, with a child's way of thinking, he thinks that if he only does this or doesn't do that, then things will be all better, without thinking about or realizing the ramifications of his actions.

::wince:: That little preview of Studio 60's in-show show sketch about StCStW looks painfully unfunny. Glad I didn't record it.

Claire is getting pretty good at covering her bases on the cover story. Nice touch on how she's trying to subtly tell her dad that she can handle herself. Not that he's gonna actually listen to her, of course. And Claire really should've taken down those chimes.

Shrink Lady? You really don't want to talk with Jessica. You might not survive. And again: nice acting by Ali Larter; I could see Jessica stealing over her face in that cutaway.

DL really is trying to be a good dad, but he's just plain NOT GOOD at it. He obviously knows next to nothing about dealing with kids in general, much less being a father, which makes me wonder exactly what the family situation was before he got sent to prison. Were he and Niki actually living together or not?

And there's Micah's confession. He looks so proud about being like his parents, but still doesn't seem to get that what he did with his power was wrong. Of course, considering that both of his parents have spent considerable amounts of time on the wrong side of the law, it's not like he has a great example of law-abidingness.

Again: Hiro really is the Pure Hero, stalwart and true.

HOLY CRAP ONNA STICK! BIG BOSS IS HIRO'S DAD! Oh, I love this show so much. :-D ("Translating" the gulp was hilarious too. Every hero needs sound effect balloons, after all.)

Oops, there's a relation of Claire! Mama, maybe? YAY! And Mama's a firestarter! Cool effect, by the way.

Sylar is so going to do horriblebad things to Papa Bennet. What's that sticking out the back of Sylar's head, though?

Next: Sylar stirs up some shit among the family Bennet, Peter get all futurey again some more, and Claire Papa is revealed. (hint: that forearm looks an awful lot like our favorite politician's...)
