Jericho 1.8: Rogue River
Previously: Denver! Chaos! Unfamiliar Faces! Inappropriate Questions! Septicemia! Green Family Squint Faces!
1 month later? So the bombs dropped end of September, then?
Okay, I can buy the highway robbers, but how did the car get flipped?
Wow. Could the greenscreening of those interior drivings scene look any faker?
Hawkins may be a SuperAgent, but how, exactly, did he get the oven to work?
So Gray is beginning the witchhunt already? Not terribly surprised that he went for the suspiciously helpful stranger first.
"Is this thing loaded?" Umm, Shouldn't you have checked that before leaving, Jake? Kinda like making sure that everyone's gone to the bathroom, but with firearms.
Jesus Christ, Jake! Just TELL SOMEONE already! The whole Mysterious Past schtick is beyond old.
Wait... was that exterior shot of the drive actually shot on a plain? Are the producers actually paying attention to what Kansas looks like? I'm... shocked. o_O
Gray is the worst interrogator ever, isn't he? And Good Cop looks quite uncomfortable here. I guess he realizes that they're treading the fine line of legality, if they haven't already crossed it. And Gray looks really scruffy. I guess he hasn't had a chance to use one of those miraculously working electric razors yet.
So Mama Green is in the Denail phase. I wonder how long before she hits Anger?
Heather once again shows why she's the coolest schoolmarm ever.
Did they turn up the contrast on Rogue River? It looks... washed out. And surprisingly clean.
Umm, Eric, why aren't you curious about how Jake knows about the FEMA evac marking? And, if the town's been evacuated, why would there be ANY medicine's left in the hospital, much less highly valuable ones like antibiotics?
Okay, so the hospital interior is definitely lit for a horror movie. The dead cop(?) in the hallway just adds to the zombie flick aspect. I am getting tired of having every interior scene so dimly lit that you can't see anything.
FEMA-hired mercenaries. Huh. Interesting tie-back to the Iraq quagmire.
Okay, so Allison remains delightfully snarky AND in character. But why, why, WHY are they using the glow sticks instead of candles or lanterns?
Ugh. I don't want Heather and Emily to bond.
The entire Hawkins family, starting with Robert, is acting FAR too suspiciously. Of course, it could be explained away in an "innocent" family as stress from being interrogated.
And again, Jake knows far too much about military ordnance to not have been in a black-ops group.
Oh, sweet merciful gods, the writers are making April pregnant now? Could we please stop with the overly cliched plotlines?
So is Jake making up another history like he did in the first episode or was he actually telling (part of) the truth this time?
FEMA evacuated an entire town to... a Walmart parking lot 3 miles away. I'd say that's poor writing, but this *IS* FEMA after all.
And the doc is a Goddam Ferriner, is he? What odds do you want to give that he gets killed, if not this episode, then next?
So we have a psycho, heavily-armed mercenary group running around willy-nilly. Somehow, I doubt that the Compound of Rough Gay Love (And Banditry) will be able to effectively defend Jericho from that.
And I like how Allison called Gray & Good Cop. It's interesting how she channeled her very real frustration and anger right back into the fake backstory. I also liked how Hawkins pere called them on violating their civil liberties. I do get the feeling that Gray is specifically targetting the Hawkins family for some reason, though.
Oh, Heather... please don't freak out and ruin the coolness points you've acquired so far.
Eric is surprisingly good at being a decoy. Guess all that lying to both his wife and his mistress paid off. But is it just me, or was the plan to get the meds away from under the mercs noses one of the stupidest ones ever?
::sigh:: So Mercenary With A Dark Secret went all martyr to Atone For His Crimes. So very not surprised.
Now I wonder whether Hawkins really is with the FBI or if he deliberately left that ID out as a second layer of decoy? Good Lord, how long did this interrogation last? It was broad daylight when Gray started and now it's twilight.
Oh, Gray... You went from total suspicion to total belief in under a second? I guess the Jericho Brand Stupidity finally kicked in. Maybe it requires moonligh to be activated.
Allison (the character, not the actress) is a much better actor than her father. Between the two of them, they make an effective spy. :-P
What an anvilicious setup for the mercenaries to come after the Green boys and Jericho.
Next Week: Government authorization! Suicide bomber Jake!
