Jericho 1.6: "9:02"

Previously: Explosion! Chaos out there! Secrets in a small town! Food train! "Reassuring" messages! Rumbly ground!

Someone in the crowd is stupid enough to ask whether the ICBMs that are TAKING OFF are ours or theirs... Somehow I'm not surprised. And if the closest missle silo is in Witchita, there's no way that they would've felt the launch this far away. Unless it's a SOOPER SEKRIT SILOW!!!

So Hawkins waits until now to report that he's been compromised?

Okay, I'm willing to not quibble about the delayed EMP if the writers are explaining it as a new attack. Although having Hawkins exposit the explanation to his family instead of Jake seemed... odd. Wouldn't the family of a government agent already have some rudimentary knowledge about this stuff, especially if Hawkins has supposedly been training them in post-nuke survival?

Okay, so we've progressed 2 weeks without power. And I'm not surprised that the dumb punks from last week's grocery store incident are fucking around vandalizing stuff.

Dale seems to be reacting in a classic "victim" pattern, alternating between lashing out and hiding.

Hawkins is getting more and more paranoid. And he's been absent for 4 years and thinks that he can slip back into command of his family? Yeah... he's more used to being a commander than a father.

Um... how can a water main have busted or flooded someone's yard when the water system is apparently totally dependent on the now-dead electrical grid. And Mayor Dad hasn't been showing up at work, huh? Guess the Deadly Coughing Sickness has progressed.

At least Mary's bar is starting to finally run out of booze.

Local roughneck / bastard son-of-a-bitch, check! Has a grudge against the hero, check!

Yup, Deadly Coughing Sickness is claiming yet another victim. And April seems to be in denial that Eric's just not that into her.

::snerk:: Okay, I like that Mimi the Auditor kicked a chicken out of the way. And it looks like she and Stanley have fallen out some during the two weeks. Gee, I wonder why.

Nice detail... without pesticides, the crops are mostly dead.

So Tough Bastard is living in a compound outside town with some other guys? Bandits in the making or gay commune? You decide!

Horse rustling? But Mrs. Mayor and Jake were standing right there for quite a while, apparently. How did the rustlers get INTO the barn without being noticed? And I guess it was bandits after all. Drat. I would've LOVED to see a gay commune. :-P

It *is* pretty miraculous that Mrs. Green wasn't seriously hurt during that stampede.

So Jake left town because someone died, possibly by Jake's hands? Cool. :-)

A barter economy has emerged! Yay! Though I'm still constantly amused by the animosity between Gracie and Mimi the Auditor.

Eric hasn't seen Mary in two weeks and has barely seen his wife during that time? Is he tapping a THIRD ass?

Jake, Jake, Jake... if you're going to sneak around the enemies' hideout, you might want to, you know, SNEAK AROUND instead of walking up bold as brass.

Stanley has a very good point. Just because he has the largest farm doesn't make him the only one who "owes" his crop to the town. Hell, he doesn't "owe" anyone.

So... Dale is working with the bandits? Is that where he's been staying?

So Jake was a gangbanger (or the Jericho equivalent). That explains a lot. And yay, Dale isn't corrupted yet! Sorta.

Interesting how they're finally addressing the fact that there's some order, but no law left in Jericho.

As creepy as Hawkins is, he's right. Jake's too emotionally involved to properly deal with things.

How did Skylar find out about Dale being at the jail? And she's still clinging rather desperately to the pre-nuke world, isn't she?

Good lord, but they film a lot in the dark. And it's interesting that Hawkins son has been inside the Mystery Bunker, but no-one else. The female members of the Hawkins family (if that's their real name) are so much more appealing to me than the males.

Plus, why in the world would Hawkins still have Jake's passport up on his screen? saved to a local file, sure, bookmarked the page for reference, no problem. But just "conincidentally" having it up? I don't think so.

Alison is Intelligently Questioning her father. I definitely like her more and more. And they didn't know that Hawkins was government? What the hell did they think he was doing those 4 years he was gone?

Somehow, I'm not surprised that Mimi arranged for the pesticide to get stolen. She certainly acted guilty enough when Paranoid Cop was there and she's already been portrayed as the Corrupt City Slicker.

Wait, so Eric is the one cheating on April, but April's going to be the one to attempt reconciliation? God, I hate that crap.

Why is Dale surprised that Bandit stole from him when Bandit has already resorted to horse rustling?

And the rolling hills of Kansas once again appear behind Jake. It seems that those hills only appear when Jake is about to fight someone. Hmm... symbolic or sloppy filming? I vote both!

Nice pointed comment, Mom! Why do I get the feeling that Mama Green is going to become the Lawgiver of the town?

Why am I not surprised that Hawkins bonds best when violence is involved?

I sincerely doubt that none of that corn is going to be stolen. And I'm still annoyed that Stanley was wasting good fuel on burning something.

About time that Mimi got taken down a peg. Glad that Gracie is being written less evil bitchy.

So Emily HASN'T left to go find her fiance yet? AND she's cheerful? Lord...

I really dislike this whole Eric/April/Mary storyline.

I find it telling that Hawkins is more willing to articifically insert himself into his family's life than actually insert himself.

And apparently Bad Additude Bandit isn't the leader of that particular gang.

Oh Lord... there're doing that whole "music by" thing that the other Teen TV has done. God, that's annoying.
