Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! I hope that everything you're thankful for continues through the next year!

Last call for holiday cards! If you want one, replay to this post or send me an email. Also, let me know which holiday (if any) you celebrate. All comments are screened.

I'm addressing cards this week and all cards should be out by the end of the week. So hurry up! :-)

Well, ladies and gentlemen, it's that time of year again. Time to collect addresses for the holiday card list!

If you'd like a card from Matt & me, either leave your address in comments (they're screened) or email it to me. Also let me know if you'd like our address in return. I *hope* to have them all out by the second week of December, but we'll see :)

Happy Holidays!

I hope everyone had a happy Independence Day! Mine was very good... went to two different cookouts with good friends, had good food and good conversation, got to see some good fireworks... it was a very good day. :)

I'm going to try to get out holiday cards this year, so if you'd like one, please leave me your full name and address*, as well as what holiday you celebrate. If you'd like to send *ME* one, please also leave your email address and I'm send you my new address. All comments are screened for privacy, as usual.

*Yes, even if I've sent you cards in the past. When I moved I lost my address list.

Okay, so considering how... badly my birthday went**, I've decided to have an antipodal birthday: I'm going to throw a party in late October as a combo 6-month birthday/Halloween party. I'm thinking about going with a zombie theme, since Zombieland is coming out around then and, well, I like me some zombies.***

So. Any suggestions from y'all? I was figuring on doing a zombie movie marathon at the very least and/or some zombie games like Left 4 Dead. Anyone interested?

** God damn you, depression!
*** No, really?

That was quite moving.

And yes, I stood, placed my hand over my heart and sang along with the anthem. It's the first time I've done so in quite a long time. This was an appropriate time to do so again.

So it's that time of year again. The leaves are turning, the weather is getting chillier, the turkeys are running in fear of their lives... What better time to start gathering addresses for cards for the holidays?

I probably still have the addresses for a lot of y'all, but I'd rather be on the safe side. Therefore, if you'd like to get a Christmas, Channukah, Kwanzaa or Solstice card from me this year, please leave your full address in a comment below, along with which holiday you celebrate. I'm going to try to have all the cards out by December 15, but any latecomers will still get their cards sent out.

Happy (Early) Holidays, everyone!
drewbear: (kenya bear)

Merry Christmas!
Happy Xanukah!
Joyous Solstice!
Happy New Year!

I hope all of you enjoy yourselves this holiday season and find only the best in the new year!

Okay peoples, here's the deal. I've received all of three responses to my request for addresses to send cards to this season. Now, I realize that some of you have the same address as last year and others may not want a card at all. So here's what I'm doing: I have addresses for the following people.

If you're on the list, haven't moved since last Christmas & want a card, please say so on this post.

If you're on the list, have moved since last year & want a card, please give me your current mailing address, including full name, on this post.

If you're not on the list & want a card, please give me your current mailing address, including full name, on this post.

Also, I plan on using non-denominational cards, but if you'd prefer something for a particular religion (or none at all), please let me know.

I am constantly surprised and disgusted by how much nasty the human body can produce when ill. Oh well... The coughing is NOT fun, but at least it's getting this crap out of my body.

In other news, I plan on doing quite a bit of online shopping today, since I called out sick. I'm doing charity donations in their names for my family, and I'm going to purchase my birthday gift for myself.

Happy Thanksgiving!

May all of you enjoy yourselves this holiday!

P.S. Don't forget to leave your address if you would like a card this year.

I give thanks for having better friends than I deserve.

I give thanks for being employed, because even though I increasingly hate my job, it pays the bills until I find something better.

I give thanks for my immediate coworkers.

I give thanks for President-Elect Obama.

Finally, I give thanks for being unemployed and desperately poor back in 2006, before I got my current job. Allow me to explain:

It was very, VERY hard, depressing and dispiriting, yes. But I learned several important things from the experience. First, I now know that I can survive the worst time in my life. Second, I learned who my true friends are/were and I'm still so very, very grateful to them. Third, it (re)kindled my interest in cooking, especially on a shoestring budget. Fourth, I am now much more aware of the interaction between my online and offline lives, and how to erect a more impenetrable barrier between them. Fifth, I know how to manage my finances much, much better, by necessity. Sixth, I know exactly how far back I can cut my medication dosage, and at what times, so as to stretch it while remaining functional.

Well, it looks like I may be going to a street party in Chapel Hill tomorrow for Halloween. I hope it'll be fun. :)

In the meantime, here are some Halloween related things for y'all to enjoy!
Happy Halloween, everyone!

It's been a good weekend.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] exploder3211 and I went to the NC State Farmers' Market and had a good time. We ended up spending 2 hours there and left with some tomatoes, onion, strawberries, 2 aloe plants (one for each of us), a sweet basil plant (for him) and some herbal chip dip, not to mention plans to return at a later date for more. The produce is absolutely amazing, as are the prices. Between the 2 of us, I'd say that only about $25-30 was spent and we more than got our money's worth.

Today I baked some cookies from scratch for the very first time. They're maple-walnut cookies (LOTS of dark brown sugar) with chocolate chunks and they're oh so good. I think I may have used a bit too much butter, but who's to know, right? ;)

This evening, I plan to go grill some burgers with [livejournal.com profile] thatfatboy & [livejournal.com profile] th0rbear. Life is good this weekend. :-)

1) Not kill my downstairs neighbors. No matter how much they might deserve it.

2) Find a job that doesn't make me want to hurt things.

3) Stop resenting people. Including myself.

4) Learn how to bake from scratch. Be forewarned: this may involve bloodshed.

Okay, so you remember that $50 "gift" card that corporate gave everyone in my clinic? They listed it on our paystubs as taxable income. Gift card my ass, you fuckers. I have *NEVER* worked anywhere that treated gifts as taxable income. Hell, when I worked at the BANK, they once gave everyone $200 cash in celebration for some milestone the bank had achieved. That money never appeared on my paystub and you know, as a bank, I'm sure they would know how to handle money properly with regard to employee gifts vs. bonuses vs. regular pay.

So. Fucking. Angry.

I don't know about the other clinics in North Carolina, but if half the current staff at my clinic are still there by the end of January, I'd be surprised.
drewbear: (Default)
First, the cards are all done and in the mail. Depending on how far you are from me, they should be there by the end of the week.

Second, I've been so slammed at and tired from work that I haven't checked my flist a lot lately, so please forgive me if I haven't responded to any of y'all. It doesn't help that posts from at least one of you are only sporadically appearing on my flist. (I can't see about 5 or 6 random posts by the person on my flist page, despite being able to read them directly off that person's account page.) So again, please forgive me.

Thirdly, since I'm not spending Christmas with anyone this year, I decided to get myself some gifts. I got this tiny little tabletop tree, which I've decorated, and put in out on my coffee table. My company gave everyone in my clinic $50 Amex gift cards as a reward for being the "bestest clinic EVAR!!!" or some shit, and I used it to buy some TPB comic collections. I immediately stuck those suckers in a gift bag, unread, and put them under the coffee table. I won't read 'em until Xmas Day, I promise. ;-)
drewbear: (kenya bear)
So it's that time of year again: time to send Xmas cards (or Chanukah or Eid or Kwanzaa).

If you would like a card from me, please leave me a (automatically screened) comment with your address. I'm going to TRY to have them all out within 2 weeks.

Oh, and since this is a public post, I'm not including my address. That's going in the next, f-locked post.

I hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving and may this holiday season be good to you all!
